Obituary

Alton “Spunky” Wayne Shell, age 76 of Laurinburg passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Alton was born July 10, 1940 in Halifax County, North Carolina, a son of the late Johnnie and Myrtle Keeter Shell. He worked in maintenance with Hardee before retirement. He was a fan of drag racing and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, building model trains and caring for his animals. He was a devoted father and grandfather who will truly be missed.

Spunky is survived by his children, son, Roman Davis (Renee) of Castalia; daughters, Debbie McQueen (Chuck) of Laurinburg, Lori S. Lowrance of Laurel Hill, Lisa S. Smith (Brad) of Indiana; sister, Margaret McDonough of Kokomo, IN; grandchildren, Michael Davis, Leslie Gilmore (Keith), Jeanie McQueen, Nicolas Herndon, Kara Chiamis and four great grandchildren, Billy Gilmore, Weston Gilmore, Benjamin Gilmore, Charlotte Gilmore and a host of family and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017at the McQueen Family Cemetery in Rowland officiated by Pastor Don Malpass. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be given to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
