Rev. Dorothy Walters Bell was born March 28, 1932 in Marlboro County, South Carolina a daughter of the late John C. Walters and Lilly McInville Walters. She was the devoted wife to the late Rev. Harold Bell who passed away in 2007. She truly cherished her time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After a life of service to Christ and her family, she entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the age of 85.
Dorothy and Rev. Bell faithfully served the Lord together in nine churches. During her many years of service, she was ordained at Shady Grove, Abbottsburg, NC, served as senior pastor at Skyway Baptist Church, Maxton, NC and then as senior pastor at Eastside Baptist Church, McColl, SC until her retirement in 2015.
She was passionate about sharing Christ’s love with everyone. In her love for missions, she served as Sumbeam Leader, GA Director, Associational WMU Director, North Carolina WMU Resource Team member and a missionary to Panama.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Deborah Rivera of Dunn, NC, Stephen Bell and wife Jean Marie of Fayetteville, NC, Susan Harris and husband Stanley of Picayune, MS, Vicki Taylor and husband Eric of Fair Play, SC, Judith Davis of Laurinburg, NC, Melinda Smith and husband Al of Laurinburg, NC; twenty one grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Eastside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to service on Thursday from 6:00 until 7:00 pm. at the church. A private burial will be held prior to services.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be given in Rev. Bell’s memory to Eastside Baptist Church, 201 North Church Street, McColl, SC 29570.

melinda my heart goes out to you and your family. your life has changed forever. the one person who has been there from your first breath to comfort you , help you through life problems give you advise to share in your joys is no longer here. when the pain subsides you will know that that her spirit will always be with you and at times you will feel it. much love ann mitchell
