Marie Strickland Oxendine



Marie Strickland Oxendine, age 67 of Laurinburg passed away at Morrison Manor on Monday, April 17, 2017.

Marie was born July 6, 1949 in Scotland County, daughter to the late Fred Strickland, Sr. and Bernice Strickland Sampson. She was the devoted wife to the late Arthur “Bo” Windell Oxendine. She worked in manufacturing with Rostra and FCC, retiring after many years of service. She was an active member of Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church and enjoyed gospel music. Marie enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, traveling and shopping. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother Fred Strickland Jr.

Marie leaves behind her children, sons, Mark Oxendine (Michelle) of Pembroke, Jason M. Oxendine of the home, Robin Lynn Strickland of Charlotte; her daughter Billy Jo Strickland Phillips of Laurinburg; brothers, James Strickland (Letha) of Laurinburg, Kent Strickland (Gloria), Shelley Strickland (Pam), Delton Ray Sampson (Paula), and Donald Strickland, all of Maxton; sisters, Annie Ruth Strickland (Shelton) of Maxton, Silver Lee McNeill (Terry) of Lumberton, Joyce Demery (Udell) of Pembroke, Melonie Smith (Anthony) of Maxton, Carmelita Locklear (Rev. Wallace Locklear) of Red Springs; and grandchildren Madison Oxendine, Zachary Phillips, Trae Phillips, Jonathan Strickland, McKenzie Strickland, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 22nd at Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Jimmy Locklear. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A time of visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00p.m. at Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church.
