Ronald “Ronnie” Gilbert Rivers, age 81 of Laurinburg passed away on Thursday,
April 25, 2017.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg officiated by Dr. Wayne Wike. A time of visitation with family and friends will follow the service at the church.
Ronald was a son of the late Columbus Lafayette “CL” Rivers and Christine Charlotte Reaves Rivers born on October 18, 1935 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He was the former owner and operator of Rivers Electric Company and retired after many years of service as a Scotland County Building Inspector. He served as a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, car racing and tinkering on cars. He will forever be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Stanton Rivers of their home; his daughter, Ronda R. Johnson and husband Paul of Tulsa, OK; brother, Edward Alton “AL” of Nashville, TN; his grandchildren, Palmer Johnson, Christina J. Smith ( Mark); great grandchildren, Hollyn Grace Smith and Henry Fuller Smith.
The family requests for memorial donations to be given in Ronnie’s memory to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

I am so sorry that I'm just learning about Ronnie's death. I worked with him in the years prior to his retirement from Scotland County and I went to school with Rhonda. I am so very sorry for your loss and my prayers are with Mrs. Rivers, Rhonda and the entire family. God Bless all of you.
