Obituary

Mr. J L Locklear, age 84 of Laurel Hill passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

J L was born April 20, 1933 in Scotland County, a son of the late Dovey Locklear and John Lester Jacobs. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed playing ball, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. He retired after 22 years of service from Abbott Laboratories and served as a faithful member of Hillside Free Will Baptist Church. Known and loved by many, J L made an impression on all he encountered.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron Locklear and John Erick Jacobs; siblings, Stoney Locklear, Margaret Rose, Leonard Hunt, Aletha Smith, Mary Lowery, Mae Perkins,James Locklear, Son Locklear, Rev. Vernon Locklear, Rev. Charlie Locklear, Willie Locklear, Ernest Locklear

J L leaves behind is loving wife, Ruby Sessoms Locklear of the home; his children, Kenneth Locklear (Samantha) of Laurel Hill, Patricia Barnhill (Bryan) of Ash; step children, Jesse Alton Mauldin, John Allen Mauldin (Susanna) both of Laurinburg, Carol Jean Cultip (Pat) of Laurinburg, Ann Mauldin of Laurel Hill; half brother, Nathaniel Hunt of Indiana, half sisters, Martha Sue Fisher of Laurinburg, Elizabeth Hunt of Laurel Hill; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27th at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Woody Byrd and Rev. Richard Tyson. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
