Obituary

George Monroe Elvis, age 94 of Laurel Hill passed away to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.


George was born in Marlboro County on July 05, 1923 a son of the late George Walker Elvis and Jessie Roberts Elvis. He worked many years as a sewing machine mechanic and also installed pumps. George served the Lord and was a faithful member and the oldest male member of Springfield Church of God. He loved to farm and enjoyed working in the garden. George was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Truly Mae Elvis; son, Larry Elvis and his other siblings.

He leaves behind his son, Dennis Elvis of Laurel Hill; daughters, Nancy Gilmore Shoemake (Donald), Sylvia Kolb (John) all of Laurinburg, Angel Elvis of California, Debbie Chavis of Laurel Hill; brother, Gordon Elvis (Joyce) of Rockingham; sisters, Letha Prevatte of Hamlet, Betty Seagraves of Gibson; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grand children, six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Springfield Church of God officiated by Rev. David Shoemake and Rev. Carl Fostic. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.
