Lula Mae Strickland Smiling, age 88 of Maxton passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25th at the Mount Hebron Holiness Church with burial following in Strickland Family Cemetery.
Lula Mae, daughter of the late Angus and Gertrude Clark Strickland was born June 6, 1929 in Robeson County. She was the loving wife of the late Harry (Beatus) Smiling and the precious mother of three children. She retired after many years in textiles. She served as a member of Mount Hebron Holiness Church. She enjoyed cleaning, watching her favorite television programs, the Golden Girl and soap operas. Lula’s favorite times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by siblings, L.C. Strickland, Angus Strickland, Jr., Irene Smiling, Annie Ruth Strickland, Betty Strickland, Sam Strickland and Diane Strickland.
Lula leaves behind her children, son, Ronald Smiling of the home; daughters, Wanda Oxendine (Harless) of Maxton and Ann Strickland of the home; a sister, Janie S. Maynor of Pembroke; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th at Mount Hebron Holiness Church in Maxton.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the God of All Comfort be with you during this difficult time. I have personally found comfort in the promise of 1st Corinthians 15:26 where it states that soon death will be brought to nothing. Then we will have the prospect of being reunited with our loved ones right here on earth(John 5:28,29).
I truly hope this brings you comfort and peace. My deepest sympathies for you all
