Rev. Sidney Earl Ball



Rev. Sidney Earl Ball, age 88 of Laurinburg passed away to his Heavenly home on Saturday, July 28, 2018.

Sidney was born July 22, 1930 in Greene County son of the late David Ball and Blanche Edwards Ball. He was a Korean War Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He loved preaching and living God’s word and was ordained as a minister in the Pentecostal faith. He faithfully served in the ministry with home missions and enjoyed serving as Sunday School Superintendent, lay speaking and working with youth programs. Before his illness, he faithfully served as a member of Gray Pond Baptist Church. He also loved working with wood in his shop, singing in the choir and playing his guitar. Rev. Ball was devoted to his family and cherished his time spent with each of them.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Ann Reynolds Ball; his brothers, Allen J. Ball, Bryan C. Ball and David Ball, Jr.

He leaves behind his daughters, Cindy B. Chavis and husband Donnie of Maxton, Rhonda B. Gurganious and husband Gerald Smith of Blacksburg, VA; grandchildren, Erin Gurganious, Donna Russo; special cousin, Harvey Knowles of Wallace, a host of nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy of love will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Gray Pond Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Church. A private interment will be held at a later time.
